I like your example of the deep roots of the Quaker aversion to haggling, since I was similarly frustrated with Lefebvre's lack of interest in where these "liberal" beliefs come from. The other day I chanced upon a book called The Spiritual Mandela on the impact of the faith he was taught by Methodist missionaries in childhood. I'm fascinated by the history of the various non-conformist Protestant churches and sects.
